A lot of contaminants enter our stormwater system almost by accident. Oil can seep out almost without anyone noticing and then get washed down the drain - and into Ahuriri Estuary. Then there's dog poo, detergents, cigarette butts and plastic - big and small. This page has 10 tips on how you can help us ensure only rain goes down the drain.
By working together we stand a better chance of improving the water quality of our estuary, so that it can remain one of the most significant cultural, environmental, ecological, and recreational sites on the East Coast of New Zealand.
The most important message is that only rain should drain to the stormwater network, and you can help by ensuring you keep your property clean of potential contaminants, limiting the chance of stormwater contamination.
