A briefing on parking projects in our central business district area.
Our parking strategy is simple. We want people to be able to easily access our central business district (CBD) area and allow generous amounts of short-term parking close to shops and cafes to encourage a continuous flow of people through this area.
For this to work we need to provide certainty of car parking for those who work and live in the CBD. This means having areas on the fringe of the retail area dedicated to long-term leased parking, so these people know that they have a car park they can access without circling around the CBD looking for a parking space, or using car parks that are designed for people coming in to the CBD to shop.
An area where we are experiencing pressure is towards Napier Hill as that side of town has few options to develop car parking. As a result of searching for areas to develop into car parking, we've purchased a site on Herschell Street that will be developed for leased car parking.
An area where we are experiencing pressure is towards Napier Hill as that side of town has few options to develop car parking. As a result of searching for areas to develop into car parking, we've purchased purchased a site on Herschell Street that will be developed for leased car parking. That will hopefully include car parking provision for those who have apartments in town (but nowhere to park), as inner city living is something we've found the Napier community supports.
