Grants and Funding

We provide funds - and also administer external funding - to voluntary groups and community organisations across the city.

There are a range of grants and funding options for community groups available from key funding providers such as the Napier City Council, Eastern & Central Community Trust, Department of Internal Affairs, community and public trusts and from the local pubs.

Community Grants

Napier City provides various types of community grants to help community-based organisations provide programmes and activities in Napier.

Community groups can apply to the Napier City Council for a Community Services Funding or a Creative Communities Grant. These grants are contestable so the success of your application would depend on the criteria, priority of the respective grant compared with the others, and the grants money available for allocation.

  • The Community Services Funding is available to not-for-profit community organisations who support and enhance the community through the services they provide Napier residents, often in their time of need. This fund supports those organisation so they can meet current and future community needs, innovate and/or continue to provide services that benefit the Napier community.
  • Creative Communities Grant is available for projects or events that encourage participation in arts and culture within the Napier Community.
  • The Community Development Grant supports initiatives that respond to a community need. Each year we provide $57,200 to community organisations, big and small, that are helping to make Napier the best city in New Zealand to live, to work, raise a family, and enjoy a safe and satisfying life.

Heritage Improvements Grant

The Heritage Improvement Fund was disestablished in mid-2017. Future funding applications are now managed by Art Deco Trust through the Robert McGregor Heritage Fund
