Wastewater Treatment Plant

We are currently exploring options for constructing emergency wastewater storage ponds that can be used during period of extreme rainfall. These ponds will only be used for temporary storage of wastewater as well as providing an option for storing wastewater when repairs are needed on the main treatment plant.

In 2020 we fixed the Awatoto Wastewater Outfall and this project is the next step in the project to improve wastewater management in Napier. The ponds will mean we can significantly reduce wastewater going into our waterways.

The construction of the ponds will also support the Ahuriri Estuary to flourish as they will help ensure wastewater does not discharge into the estuary.
