Lost and found dogsNgā kurī kua kitea

Dogs are impounded for many reasons. They may have attacked other animals or people, are found roaming, or have been surrendered by the public. Whatever the reason, they’re looked after until their owners arrive or they find their forever home.

Impounded Dogs

Once an impounded dog has been held for 8 days and not claimed by its owner, it then becomes the property of the Napier City Council. All dogs are temperament assessed during this period and those that are suitable for re-homing are offered up for adoption.

Please contact our Administration Officer if you are interested in becoming the new owner of one of these dogs as they come available.

Note: Proof of ownership is required and payment made before release of any dog.
