Redclyffe Transfer StationTe taupuna whakawhiti para o Redclyffe

Redclyffe Transfer Station is located on Springfield Road, a few minutes southwest of Taradale. It takes various types of recycling, scrap metal, green waste, building waste, general waste and other items including retired LPG bottles and waste oils. Booking is no longer required.

Alert Level 2 

The Redclyffe Transfer Station is open at Alert Level 2, but there will be changes implemented so please be patient. This is to keep users and our staff and contractors safe, and to manage demand and quantities of waste expected.

What can I expect to see?

  1. Layout and format changes will be different, including traffic management being in place – please slow down and follow the instructions of staff on site;
  2. Expect lengthy waiting times and queues – we ask that you be patient;
  3. Contact tracing and social distancing is required by law;
  4. You must wear a mask;
  5. Contactless payment is preferred 
  6. In order to manage demand, we encourage you to come to the Transfer Station on your normal kerbside collection day.

Refuse Transfer Station

The Council operates a Refuse Transfer Station operation at 193 Springfield Road, Redclyffe.

Council's Refuse Transfer Station at Redclyffe accepts most domestic, garden and building waste.

All vehicles using these facilities are weighed in and out and charges are based on the weight and type of material dropped off.

The Recycling operation is part of Council's Waste Minimisation initiatives and accepted items can be dropped off free of charge. This service is set up to handle household volumes of recycling. 

Monday to Saturday: 7:30am - 4:45pm
Sunday: 9am - 4:45pm

(All customers to be off-site by 5 PM everyday) 


Anyone not following the rules may be trespassed.

Holidays: Closed on Good Friday, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

What Goes Where?

Before Kiosk – Accepted items that are clean are free for recycle in non-Commercial volumes. 

  • Green, brown and clear glass bottles and jars
  • Paper/cardboard
  • Tin/aluminium cans
  • Plastics grades 1, 2 and 5 ONLY ( If in doubt, chuck it out) - please note that plastic grade 5 is NOT accepted in your kerbside recycling. 
    If  you have any questions around what can be recycled at the Transfer Station please enquire with the staff on site.
  • Scrap metal
  • LPG bottles
  • Batteries 

We ask that you separate recyclable items and place them in the correct bins to avoid contamination.

After Kiosk - Charge applies.

  • Green waste, general waste, polystyrene, car tyres, concrete,
  • Fridges, freezers and waste oil have their own area located near the main tip face.
From July 1 2021, you will no longer be able to dispose of paint at the Redcliffe Transfer Station. For small amounts of paint, we recommend letting it dry out and disposing of it in your weekly waste collection. Alternatively, Resene or Dulux both offer paint recycling and disposal services.
Never pour paint down storm drains, household sinks (especially if you have a septic tank) or onto the ground.

Some rules apply

Maximum 2 metre lengths for: 

  • solid materials 
  • wood 
  • Plastic/irrigation pipe 
  • netting 
  • fencing wire 

What won't be accepted:

  • posts or battens attached 
  • plastic/metal drums 
  • full fadges - please empty into the pit 


Refuse Transfer Station

Refuse Transfer Station Fees and Charges approved for 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022.

All fees and charges are inclusive of GST (except as noted *).

Note: Tonnages are obtained via calibrated weighbridge, minus the weight of the vehicle, in 20kg increments.
Note: No fixed charge for individual rubbish bags
Note: Government waste levy and ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) charges are incorporated in the rate for general refuse.
Note: Fridges and freezers will only be accepted after paying general waste charges. This is because of high costs to de-gas these appliances.
Note: Discount for bulk waste account holders dumping a tonnage in excess of 500 tonnes per annum is disestablished.
