Community Services Grant

Our city relies heavily on a number of community organisations, many voluntary, that care for Napier community, especially our more vulnerable citizens. Each year we provide operational funding to these groups so they can continue their good work.

Napier City Council provides funding for not for profit community and voluntary organisation that provide a social service to Napier residents, often in their time of need. Contact the Community Funding Advisor for more information belindam@napier.govt.nz

What we fund

The community services grant supports community and voluntary not-for-profit organisations, with legal status, so they can meet current and future community needs and innovate and/or continue to provide social services that benefit the Napier community. Grants typically range from $500-$2000.
For more information please see our community services grant guidelines here.

Rates subsidies are also available to not for profit organisations that provide a social service. The properties must be rated as commercial, owned by the organisation and used to provide community services. The organisation must be the official ratepayer as recognised by Napier City Council. Organisations that already receive a discount on their rates are not eligible for this rates subsidy.

What we look for

Have a look at the organisations that successfully got funding in 2021-22 in the 'Latest recipients' table below. You'll notice a couple of things at once. First, many of them have a precise focus, providing the expert services to the community that specialists do best. Secondly, you'll see all of them address pressing community needs - they're an integral part of the framework (along with government and local government agencies) that looks after us all.

Priority is given to groups whose primary purpose:

  • Contributes to achieving community interest
  • Alleviates disadvantage, and / or
  • Provides a specific community service (including social services)

Applicants will need provide evidence of additional costs, increased demand, and/or reduced funding.

Priority is given to organisations whose services are 100% targeted to Napier residents.
