Community Services Grant

Our city relies heavily on a number of community organisations, many voluntary, that care for Napierites, especially our more vulnerable citizens. Each year we provide $114,000 in operational funding to these groups so they can continue their good work.

NCC provides $114,000 a year to the community and voluntary organisations that look after Napier residents, often in times of great need. If you want to apply for this funding, please click the 'Related documents' button above to download your application form and project guidelines.

Community Services Grant

What we fund

The Community Services Grant is a contribution from Napier City Council to the community not-for-profit sector that helps look after our residents. This fund, worth $97,200 this year, helps these community organisations to provide services which benefit the wider Napier community. Grants typically range from $500 to $2000.

We also offer rates subsidies to groups who own a property that is used to provide community services in Napier. Once again, this grant is only available to not-for-profit groups with legal entity status within Napier City. Family trusts, social clubs and chartered clubs are ineligible.

Next Funding Round

- Opens Monday 29 April. Closes Friday 17 May, 5pm.
- The Grants Allocation Sub-Committee convene on 18 July to decide the successful applicants. Funds are available from August 2019.

What we look for

Have a look at the organisations that successfully got funding in 2017 in the 'Latest recipients' table below. You'll notice a couple of things at once. First, many of them have a precise focus, providing the expert services to the community that specialists do best. Secondly, you'll see all of them address pressing community needs - they're an integral part of the framework (along with government and local government agencies) that looks after us all. Specifically, we fund groups and organisations that:

  • contribute to achieving community interest
  • alleviate disadvantage and/or,
  • provide a specific community service (including social services).

Priority is given to organisations whose services are 100% targeted to Napier residents.

How to apply

You'll need to print off the CSG Application Form 2019-20 and fill it out. It's worth reading the CSG Guidelines (70MB) - and then reading them again - as they'll help you make an application that shines.

Once applications close, they will be assessed by Community Funding Advisor and presented to the Grants Allocation Sub-Committee for consideration. They'll then be ratified by NCC councillors at an NCC meeting. All decisions are final and are not subject to review.

Note: If you receive a grant, other than a rates subsidy grant, we'll want to hear how your project or service went. We'll ask you to fill in a 'Report Back' form.
