The huge 19.51ha domain is mostly used as the home of the Hawke's Bay Speedway for car and bike racing, Napier Riding for the Disabled, Napier Dog Obedience Club and several other clubs. NCC also has a plant nursery at the park, while the remainder is grazed by stock.

It is also used for events by the Puketapu Pony Club.

Part of the park is used by the Napier City Council as a tree and shrub nursery, while the remainder is grazed under lease.

History

The rural domain was set aside in the early days of European settlement to provide for future recreational facilities. Until then, it was anticipated that any revenue generated off the land could be used to maintain other reserves.
