Napier Aquatic CentreTe Whare Kaukau o Ahuriri

The Napier Aquatic Centre, Hawkes Bay's most comprehensive year-round aquatic facility. Situated in the centre of Napier, in the middle of Onekawa Park, the Napier Aquatic Centre is a safe and affordable aquatic facility for everyone.

COVID-19 Traffic Light System Update

11 January 2022

Napier City Council has re-run the risk assessment for all of its facilities within the Traffic light settings using the most recent COVID-19 Protection Framework Guidance for Local Government.  As a result of this assessment, Napier Aquatic Centre will require the use of My Vaccine Passes from 15 January 2022.

This means everyone aged 12 or over will need to present their My Vaccine Pass to a staff member to be verified before entering.

Limited access

A facility like ours has to limit customers, based on the number of people who can visit while keeping a physical distance of at least 1m.  Capacity for the Ivan Wilson complex will be limited to 150 people, with an additional 50 people in the Old Pool.  Allan’s Pool and the gym are separate areas and capacity will be over and above these limits for the main two pool areas.

To manage these limits while trying to ensure that no one misses out, we will be running three daily ‘sessions’. During weekdays these sessions will be:

  • 6AM to 10AM – use limited structured aquatic health & fitness activities such as lane swimming, water-walking, and aquaerobics sessions.
  • 10AM to 2PM – facility is available for all activities including leisure and play.
  • 2.30PM to close – facility is available for all activities including leisure and play.

At the end of these sessions at 10AM and 2PM we will be asking all customers in the facility to leave to create capacity for the next session.

From 10AM the Ivan Wilson lane pool will be available, the outdoor splash pad will be open, and we will have the inflatable run in the Old Pool at most times.

Unfortunately the hydro slides will not be in operation due to the pumps being reconditioned, and the Ivan Wilson learners’ pool is also unavailable until the re-tiling is completed.  We are working on returning both of these into operation as quickly as we can.

We are excited about welcoming families back to our facility so you can have fun and cool off. Please be aware of these session times so that you have enough time to enjoy our facility.

Birthday party bookings for the inflatable will also be taken from 15 January.

We will also be asking all customers to consume any food or drink in the outdoor area by the splash pads.

You will be required to wear a mask when you enter the facility and at all times when not in the pool.

Hygiene and cleaning

We have always had strict sanitation, handwashing, and health and wellness policies for our employees. Hygiene champions are dedicated to each shift who ensure all contact surfaces are sanitised.  Extra cleaning and sanitising will be carried out during the day to keep both our staff and our valued customers safe.  We have several sanitising stations throughout the complex, so please ensure you use these upon entry and exit of facility.  Most importantly, if you are feeling unwell, please stay at home.

Paywave accepted here

We have Paywave.  Please use this option whenever possible.
