A vehicle remains the responsibility of its last registered owner. The Council will charge the last owner of an abandoned motor vehicle where they are identified, with the removal and disposal cost of the vehicle.
You can contact us to report an abandoned vehicle. To help resolve the problem, please have as much of the following information available as you can:

Vehicles abandoned on State Highways are the responsibility of the NZ Transport Agency and they can be contacted in the first instance.
A vehicle that has been removed will not be returned to the owner until such time as the cost of towage and storage has been paid in full to Napier City Council. You will need to provide proof of ownership of the vehicle with suitable identification. Arrangements will then be made with you to collect the vehicle.
If you think your vehicle may have been towed as an abandoned vehicle, please contact the NZ Police in the first instance, as they may be aware of the location of the vehicle.
