If a vehicle has been abandoned, and has no WOF or registration, we will remove the vehicle from the street then pursue the costs involved from the last registered owner. If you think your vehicle has been towed as an abandoned vehicle, please call our parking receptionist.
A vehicle remains the responsibility of its last registered owner.
Often owners can sell their unwanted vehicles to scrap metal merchants.
A vehicle currently warranted and registered cannot be dealt with as abandoned. However, it may attract infringement fees for a variety of parking issues.
If a vehicle is abandoned and requires towing or removal, the Council will seek the costs involved from the last registered owner. Vehicles abandoned on State Highways are the responsibility of the NZ Transport Agency and they are to be contacted in the first instance.
If you think your vehicle may have been towed as an abandoned vehicle, please contact the NZ Police in the first instance (as they may be aware of where the vehicle is). Otherwise, please contact NCC Customer Service Team on +64 6 835 7579. We'll need information of where the vehicle was located, vehicle plate number, colour, make etc.
Vehicle Impounding: Contact the Parking Division for the retrieval of impounded vehicles.
