It’s prohibited to consume alcohol in Alcohol Ban areas and this is enforced by Police. You can carry alcohol through these areas but you’re not allowed to open, drink or store alcohol within these areas. Check out the location map below to find out where in Napier alcohol bans apply.
It is prohibited to consume alcohol in public areas in any of the Alcohol Ban areas. Members of the public are still able to transport or carry containers of alcohol through the area (for example from a bottle store to their car) but not allowed to drink, hold or store liquor in any liquor ban area.
The alcohol bans are in place at all times. The one exception is within the Westshore-specified area where the restrictions apply overnight - from 8.00pm to 6.00am the following morning. It's important to note that the bans do not apply to private property at any time.
The Alcohol Control bylaw is enforced by the police who have authority to search, detain and request details.
Should you have any questions with regard to the bylaw contact Council's Environmental Health Team.
The map below shows the alcohol ban areas for the Napier City Council boundary.
