People wanting to learn a new skill are being encouraged to register with Taradale Library ahead of their Creation Station sessions starting soon.

'Creation Station' is being held on Thursdays and Saturdays at Taradale Library. The sessions will run for 10 weeks during each school term. They will cover a range of subject areas, providing hands-on experiences with various materials, technology, and machinery.

Napier Libraries manager Nicola Saunders explains the sessions aim to educate and provide the community with access to skills and equipment they may not otherwise have.

“If someone wants to have a go, make something cool, fun, quirky or special, or even trial equipment before investing in their own, this is the perfect opportunity,” says Nicola. “It’s also a great way of bringing family together and making gifts for friends and whanau.”

“We want to encourage the community to see libraries as more than just spaces for children and books, they can be a hub for all of us to enjoy creativity and invention as well”.

Some of the gadgets available for use include 3D printers, Cricuts, sewing machines and Lego robots.

Creation Station is designed for people of all ages to explore, learn, and create using a dedicated space and variety of equipment at Taradale Library. With a range of workshops spanning sewing, coding, robotics, and 3D printing, 'Creation Station' invites the community to get creative, offering free activities and use of equipment to the community.

The first session is scheduled for February 8, focusing on sewing and overlocking, for complete beginners or anyone who would like a refresher on the use of the equipment. As part of the introductory phase, attendees are required to complete a "101 beginner introduction" session before working on the various equipment available. Some materials for creating can be purchased from the library team, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own.
