Starting Wednesday 20 September, we will be conducting smoke testing of the drainage network in the following areas:
The testing will take place between 8am and 5pm, Wednesday 20 September to Friday 22 September.
The purpose of this routine process is to identify any cross-connections between the wastewater and stormwater networks, preventing overflows caused by additional rainwater entering the system and putting pressure on the network.
During this time, you may observe smoke or vapour coming out of drain grates, manhole lids, gulley traps, and downpipes. However, there's no need to be alarmed as the smoke used for testing is harmless, non-toxic, and odourless. It's safe for humans, animals, and plants, and won't leave any residue or stains. It's not a fire hazard and will dissipate quickly without leaving any odour.
