Sing beautiful music in the beautiful Waiapu Cathedral in Napier! Save the date - Saturday July 16th 2022 - for a SING-IN - a wonderful afternoon of music-making - a real treat for music-lovers after so many choral events being cancelled due to lockdowns last year.
You're invited to come and sing the beautiful Vivaldi GLORIA and some anthems by Mozart, Handel and Haydn. These selections are some of the most beloved vocal music in the sacred repertoire and we guarantee you will love them. Of course we will provide the scores for you to sing from.
This will be the third Sing-in event in the Cathedral since 2019 and will once again be led by Anthony Tattersall, Director of Music at Waiapu Cathedral, and Michael Fletcher, until recently Director of Music at the Catholic Cathedral in Wellington; both are expert musicians, wonderful organists, encouraging conductors – and fun to work with!
We will spend a couple of hours rehearsing the music and then, after a break for afternoon tea and socialising, will perform the works, accompanied by the Cathedral Strings orchestra, in a short concert. And afterwards, you may like to stay on in the city and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Winter Art Deco weekend. It’s all on in Napier!
Anyone who can read a music score and loves to sing is welcome to join the Sing-in.
We are not asking for payment ($20 for adults, $5 for students) until the day. But it will be helpful to know how many people to expect, so we can organise supplies of scores and refreshments. So, if you are keen to participate in the 2022 Sing-in, please contact Rae Towers by phone (021 633 567) or email (raewyn.towers@outlook.com) to register.
PS. If you don’t want to sing in the choir but would like to hear the results of the afternoon’s work, do come along to the concert at about 4:15 pm. The Sing-in choir would love to have an audience! Entry is $10 (children free) to help cover expenses.
Saturday 16 July, 1:30pm to 5:00pm
