The purpose of a council workshop, briefing or presentation is to prepare our Elected Members with the background information and knowledge they need to make informed choices for the city later on.
Workshops happen early in the council’s decision-making process and provide an opportunity for discussion between elected members and council staff on early drafts of policies or on proposed council projects. Workshops cannot be used to make final decisions - these can only be made at Council or Standing Committee meetings.
In 2024 the council decided to make workshops more transparent. As such they are generally open to the public, unless there is a specific legal reason to keep them closed. When that happens, the officers will explain why.
The council will also regularly release workshop material to keep everyone in the loop.
Workshops, along with relevant written material, can be viewed below.
