Napier City Council's Dogsmart Education programme educates children how to be safe around dogs in their own schools.

The one-hour long programme is presented by the Council’s Animal Control Officers along with their dogs, to teach children safe techniques, find out what resources are available and ask questions of the educators about dog safety.

Developed by the Christchurch City Council Animal Management Education Team it is already presented to over 2,500 Christchurch children annually.

Due to its overwhelming success Dogsmart has now become the programme of choice for The New Zealand Institute of Animal Control Officers.
