Napier's Positive Ageing Strategy

Vision: 'Living well, ageing well'.

The Napier Positive Ageing Strategy outlines an age friendly approach for Napier with the overall vision of people ‘living well and aging well’, reflecting the community's desire to recognise that ageing affects everyone in our community.

Priority Areas

The Strategy focuses on seven priority areas:

  • Being Informed and Involved
  • Being Safe
  • Community Spirit
  • Getting Around
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Housing
  • Things to Do

The Strategy

The Strategy was developed by a working group of organisations involved in supporting and catering for those ageing in our community, in consultation with the wider community.

The Strategy was formally accepted by Napier City Council and is available in the following formats - E-text, Plain Text, HTML, audio and DAISY. To request an audio or DAISY file, please contact Blind Low Vision, or visit their Napier branch - 65 Thackeray Street, Napier South, Napier 4110.

Positive Ageing Strategy Action Plan

An Advisory Group was formed in late 2021 to develop and guide implementation of an action plan for the Strategy.

Napier is a Caring Community

There's a great deal of care and aroha within the Napier community. We look out for each other - but we also have busy lives and can miss things. So we're asking people to look out for their more vulnerable neighbours. To find out more about how you can help visit - Look out for your neighbour.

We set out to build better connections between seniors and the rest of the Napier whānau. You can find more information in our Napier Connects Toolkit.
