Napier Libraries are making changes to the way services are offered to ensure lending continues under Phase 3 of the Government’s Omicron response.

Working with library users, library staff are trialling a Napier home delivery service to ensure the community can access items when isolating.

Dr Steph Rotarangi, Chief Executive of Napier City Council who runs the libraries, says “Kiwis have been adjusting to an ever-changing environment with Covid-19, and it is important to find ways to adapt and adjust our library offering to ensure continuity of service during the next phase of the Omicron response.”

“With Covid-19 infections rising we expect more people may be isolating at home.  We want to ensure they don’t miss out on their favorite books and library items during this time”.

To accommodate the delivery service, the Napier library team has made some changes to services to ensure a suite of new library offerings together provide a full service to customers.

More information on the new services:

Mini-Library

From Wednesday 2 March, the main Napier Library will be closed and a ‘mini-library’ will be set-up in the foyer of the MTG Century Theatre.  A vaccine pass will not be required to go to the mini-library. Services offered at the mini library will be collection of reserved items, ‘Collect & Go’, themed ‘Grab Bags’ of books pre-selected by the librarians, internet access, and a ‘recently returned shelf’. This will be open 9.30am-5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Home delivery service

From Monday 28 February, Napier Library will trial delivery to homes within Napier City Council boundaries.  This will be a contactless service.  If customers are unable to visit the library they will be eligible for this service however delivery will be prioritised to those who are self-isolating due to Covid-19 or studying from home.

‘Collect & Go’

Library users can reserve an item (via the online catalogue, Spydus app or via phone). The library team will have it ready to collect from either Napier mini-library (for all customers) or via Taradale Library (for customers with a vaccine pass).

All the new services are free of charge.
