Napier City Council is helping residents prepare for an emergency by getting behind an initiative to sell emergency rain water tanks to the public.

Napier Civil Defence has negotiated a bulk order with tank manufacturer ‘The Tank Guy’ to provide 200-litre tanks and fittings for $110 each.

Water Tank FAQs

A 200-litre tank and fittings will cost you $110. 

Each tank holds 200 litres of water. The tank weighs 7.5kg when empty and measures 1.2m high and 65cm wide. 

The tank comes in two colours - Dark Green and Birch Grey

The tank connects to a downpipe on your home or garage, where it collects and filters rain water. When the tank is full water continues into the storm water system. The great thing is a tank can be installed by the average person in approximately half an hour. Although, if you are not confident you may wish to get good plumbing and building advice from a professional. It is important the tanks are installed correctly and secured firmly to your dwelling without affecting the integrity of your building cladding. Tenants, remember to ask your landlord for permission before securing the tank to your dwelling

 

 

It is made of UV resistant, food grade plastic and is certified as meeting New Zealand standards for water storage. However, health advice is to boil all drinking water from the water tank in an emergency – just to be on the safe side

The tanks come complete with all fittings and a 10-year manuafacturer’s warranty. However, people living near the coast should upgrade the hooks to stainless steel or galvanised alternatives.
