The Rates Relief Grant is for residential and commercial ratepayers who are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19.
Residential or commercial ratepayers (as listed on the Ratings Information Database) who are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. This scheme is available for people or businesses that did not already receive some kind of benefit (e.g. Jobseeker Support) prior to the 1st of April 2020. Recipients of NZ Superannuation are not eligible.
A one-off payment of $200 for residential ratepayers and $500 for commercial ratepayers is available for the 2020/21 financial year.
One grant per registered ratepayer/s only.
You must provide evidence of a change in circumstances (from 1st of April 2020) of a 30% or more reduction in gross income/revenue for a period of at least 30 days due to COVID-19, compared to the same period in the previous year. This may include evidence from your employer (pay slips or letter of termination/service), bank statements, or financial statements from your accountant.
Bank slips or bank statements are also required so that payment can be made to successful applicants.
Applications must be received no later than Friday, 30 October 2020, with applicants being notified whether they are successful by Monday, 30 November. Payments to successful applicants will be made after this date.
