Rental and retirement housing
OUR HOUSING UNITS ARE CURRENTLY FULLY OCCUPIED AND THERE'S A WAITING LIST
The Council provides homely, well-maintained flats in safe, secure communities across Napier. We currently have 373 flats at 12 locations – nine retirement and three general rental villages.
Flats are available for people who meet certain criteria, mostly around around housing needs and income.
We try to keep all our properties in good shape.
Each year we carry out a maintenance inspection to see if there's any unreported work we need to do (and also book in general improvements and enhancements). Our tenants can contact our village supervisors - or us, direct - with maintenance requests, Monday to Friday (normal working hours).
Garden and Lawn Maintenance
We maintain the community lawns and gardens in a tidy condition.
Tenants are responsible for tending the small gardens surrounding their flat.
Policy on Pets
We have a pets policy that allows the following companions to be kept:
- Aquarium Fish
- Small birds (eg. budgie, canary, eaglet or bird of similar size and characteristics)
- Cat (one only, must be spayed or neutered)
- Dog - only in special circumstances and with the consent of the Housing Manager. The dog must be no bigger than a lapdog.
Car parking Provided
We provide one off-street park per flat.
We ask visitors are to either use the designated visitors' parks, or park outside the village.
