Published: 15 June 2018

Dr Suess's most beloved, be-hatted feline is coming - and little Napierites have a chance to meet him.

Cat in the Hat
Napier Libraries is hosting a unique event next month that is sure to appeal to fans of Dr Seuss’s classic stories who like to indulge in a spot of dressing up.

There are some great prizes up for grabs for those who participate in the Cat in the Hat ‘Cat Walk’.

These include books, DVD’s, and passes to some of Napier’s top family attractions. First prize is a family pass, including a backstage meet and greet, to The Cat in the Hat: Live on Stage at the Napier Municipal Theatre on 5 October.

“We’re excited to be partnering with the Napier Municipal Theatre for this fun event. It’s a great way to encourage reading in our community, getting our younger generation involved as well as their whānau and friends,” says Darran Gillies, Libraries Manager.

NCC Libraries Manager, Darran Gillies: "We’re excited to be partnering with the Napier Municipal Theatre for this fun event. It’s a great way to encourage reading in our community, getting our younger generation involved as well as their whānau and friends."

To take part in the Cat Walk, which is being held in the theatre’s Pan Pac foyer at 11.00am on Saturday 28 July, all you have to do is make your own version of any one of Dr Seuss’s book characters – make sure to enter the competition too.

To celebrate the competition’s launch on Saturday 30 June, Taradale and Napier libraries are hosting special story time events at both libraries on that day, at 11am and 1.30pm respectively.

Expect a lot of fun activities, craft creation, face painting, inspiration for creating the best costumes - story telling of course – and some advice on how to win tickets to the show.

To take your place in the Cat Walk, enter online www.napierlibrary.co.nz or complete an entry form at Napier Municipal Theatre, Napier or Taradale Library, between Saturday 30 June and Friday 20 July.
