Summer fun in the CBD

Published: 1 February 2018

With plenty of verandahs to stroll under, the occasional showers expected on Saturday won't get in the way of Emerson Street's party.

Summer Street Party Batucada

A weekend weather forecast predicting occasional showers for Saturday will not put a dampener on the day’s Street Party, which will go ahead rain or shine in the Napier CBD.

This family-friendly free event, which runs from 10am to 3pm, will have three entertainment zones, with one especially for the kids. The road will be closed so the party can stretch the length of Emerson Street. The street will be alive all manner of entertainment - from Kapa Haka from the talented Ngā Uri o Pania, acrobatics by Parkour, Bay Batucada Drummers, buskers, a sneak peek at the upcoming Madame Butterfly opera, photo booths, free facepainting for kids and more.

The CBD has been experiencing a hectic summer period and this weekend will be no different with two visiting ships, a concert, and Waitangi Day travellers in town, not to mention plenty of locals staying home for the weekend.

Napier City Business Inc has been pleased to support Napier City Council with this initiative to bring the street alive over this very busy weekend, says Zoe Barnes, Napier City Business Inc Manager. The CBD has been experiencing a hectic summer period and this weekend will be no different with two visiting ships, a concert, and Waitangi Day travellers in town, not to mention plenty of locals staying home for the weekend, she says. “We wanted to really show Napier off and make the most of the crowds by having entertainment along Emerson Street throughout the day. Along with the shopping and everything else the CBD has to offer it is sure to be a day out for the whole family. Come along and see Napier CBD at its finest.”
