Rubbish and recycling over the Christmas and New Year period.

Rubbish and recycling collections will continue as normal over the festive period for residential areas, so please continue to put yours out on the usual day ready for collection by 7am.

Retailers will experience a slight change to their collection dates as indicated below;

• Saturday 25-12-2021 – No rubbish collection for the CBD – normal collection will resume on Monday 27-12-2021
• Saturday 1-01-2022 - No rubbish collection for the CBD  - normal collection will resume on Monday 03-01-2022

This is also a timely reminder to please follow the below guidelines when putting out your rubbish and recycling:

Wheelie Bins

• Weekly allowance - your weekly allowance for refuse and recycling using both your wheelie bin and three recycling crates is 255 litres.
• If your weekly waste is more than this amount, other options include:
  - A private subscription service for general waste
  - Excess or bulky waste can be taken to Redclyffe Refuse Transfer Station (open every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day)
• Make sure the lid is completely closed - open lids can get caught in the wind causing rubbish to blow out into the street. Overfull bins can damage the collection truck while they are being emptied.
• Avoid compacting rubbish - if you squash the rubbish down too much it can get jammed and lighter items can get stuck. This means we aren’t able to empty the bin properly.
• Face your bin out to the road - avoid putting your bin behind trees or power poles and ensure it is faced out to the road. Bins presented backwards or sideways can easily get damaged during emptying.
• No hazardous waste - hazardous wastes provide risks during transport and disposal.
  - No liquids – these can spill over the collection truck and leak during transport.
  - No gas bottles or cylinders – these will explode when compacted by the truck causing damage.
  - No hot ashes – these cause fires in the truck and at landfill.
  - No batteries - these cause fires in the truck and at landfill. 

Recycling Bins

• Each household has three recycling crates: Paper and cardboard, glass bottles & jars and, plastic (1 & 2) & cans. 
  - Please ensure you follow the sorting guidelines above. You can have any number of bins filled with the same type of recycling, but please ensure they are not mixed.
  - Please only recycle grade 1 & 2 plastics. You can recycle other grades of soft plastic at any of the soft plastic stations at The Warehouse, Countdown or Pak n Save.
