Children’s Day in Napier still going ahead, with two changes

Bay Skate

Get rolling – Bay Skate is offering one child free entry with every adult this Children’s Day.

Children’s Day in Napier this Sunday, 7 March, will be going ahead at Napier City Council facilities, except at the Napier Aquatic Centre.

As the Government has not yet made an  announcement about whether the rest of the country can revert to Alert Level 1 from Sunday, the Aquatic Centre has decided to cancel its one child free with every adult offer. The facility cannot offer socially distanced play areas under Alert Level 2, and the changing rooms are closed.

Taradale Library has also decided to cancel its planned Story Time, but is going ahead with the scavenger hunt, which will run from 10.30am to 3pm.

The other participating Council facilities and their offers are:

  • Bay Skate – one child free entry with adult
  • National Aquarium – two children entry for the price of one (children aged between 4-14 years)
  • Par2 MiniGolf – one child free entry with every adult.

Other facilities will be following Ministry of Health guidelines for the relevant alert levels, with the health and safety of customers and staff being paramount. Staff ask that people please be patient as there may be queues.

Every year Council facilities do something special to mark Children’s Day, on the first Sunday of March.

Many other countries recognise Children’s Day and it has been held in New Zealand since 2000. It is an opportunity for families and communities to support and nurture children, with communities and organisations nationwide hosting activities and events designed to bring families together and show how important children are in our community.
