Changes to Napier’s kerbside recycling collection and Council’s focus on fast-tracking drinking water network improvements have had a financial impact on Napier City Council’s Annual Plan for 2019/20.

At today’s Extraordinary Council meeting, Councillors adopted the Annual Plan, which includes a 6.4% average increase in rates.

“Seventy percent of the 218 submitters to the Annual Plan consultation document agreed Council should continue to subsidise kerbside recycling collection, and we came to the same conclusion. This plan also signals our commitment to our water network and compliance responsibilities, and we have brought forward $7.8m worth of additional drinking water network projects. This brings our total spending on Three Waters, that is, drinking water, stormwater and wastewater, in 2019/20 to over $37m,” says Acting Mayor Faye White.

The Annual Plan upholds the requirements of the Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2018-24.

Council has approved $200,000 of funding from loans and rates for an independent review to investigate options and costings for the supply of a citywide unchlorinated water network, that must meet new national drinking water regulations.

The online version of the Annual Plan will be available from Monday (2 July), and printed copies will be available upon request from the Customer Service Centre on Hastings Street, and Napier Libraries the following day.
