Napier City Council is supporting a programme to help Maraenui residents interested in buying a home.

The Money Mates programme will run from 6pm to 8pm over four Tuesdays, beginning next Tuesday 25 June, at EIT’s Maraenui campus, at the Maraenui Shopping Centre.

The programme, covering Kiwisaver, Home Start Grants, clearing debt, loans, repayments and other associated issues, has been established by BudgetFirst and Mortgage Partners, in partnership with local company Angel Promotions. The programme aligns with Te Pihinga (formerly known as Activate Maraenui) and Napier City Council’s support for the Maraenui community, says Natasha Mackie, Manager Community Strategies, particularly with the recent announcement there is a Kiwibuild development planned for Geddis Ave in the suburb. “Council has been working with people in this community for a number of years, and supporting whānau in this way ties in neatly with the goals we and other stakeholders in Te Pihinga have, to grow the economic and social prosperity within Maraenui.”

This programme supports whānau who dream of owning their own home, especially those who may not know where to start, says Theresa O’Brien, from Angel Promotions. “Even if people feel now is not the right time for them to be thinking about buying a house, we encourage them to come along and find out more. There will be more housing opportunities to come in Maraenui.”
