A statement of claim for a judicial review trying to block Napier’s new aquatic centre was filed on Wednesday 29 May. Acting Mayor Faye White has issued a brief statement in response.

"Napier City Council has received a legal challenge to the aquatic centre decision from a newly formed incorporated society. It is very disappointing that the proceedings threaten to undermine the democratic process to date. The council is taking advice about how to best protect the interests of the Council and its community, including from serious financial damage. It is important that there is accurate information out in the community and the Acting Mayor will be keeping the community informed as and when possible."
