Moana will be the first to screen in the Mitre 10 MEGA Outdoor Movie Season at Bay Skate. The season begins on Friday 26 January and runs for three consecutive weekends, weather permitting. The Jungle Book will screen on Friday 2 February, with a movie that has quickly become a Kiwi classic, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, finishing the season on Saturday 10 February.

Each screening will begin at 6.30pm and finish at approximately 9.30pm.

This is the first time the Marine Parade attraction has been used for a movie, and it is sure to be a hit, with the views of the Pacific, and across to Cape Kidnappers. “The Mitre 10 Mega Outdoor Movie Season is about creating a unique, affordable and family-friendly event within Hawkes Bay’s event calendar, as well as a great way of welcoming non-rollersports people to Bay Skate, “ says Glenn Lucas, Manager Sport and Recreation, Napier City Council.

“During our recent Say It Napier engagement period, where we invited our community to tell us what they wanted to see next in Napier, we received several suggestions relating to outdoor movie nights. We saw this as a really nice idea and one we could implement reasonably quickly, particularly if we could attract a partner to help us along!”

When Mitre10 MEGA co-owners Graeme and Stephen Ricketts heard about the Outdoor Movie Season, they couldn’t wait to come on board as the sponsor. “As a locally owned and operated family business, we love supporting things that are all about the family. And of course, as born and bred locals we understand what a great place Marine Parade is on a summer evening,” explains Graeme.

Tickets, which will cost $10 per adult, and $5 per child, will be available from Ticketek from Friday 1 December.

Mitre10 supports many community projects and locally, is wellknown for events such as the annual Mitre10 Megawalk, which raises money for Canteen. Graeme and his brother Stephen joined their parents’ business, Scott & Ricketts, in the 1980s. The firm has been part of the Mitre10 franchise since 1975. The brothers opened the first Mitre10 MEGA in Hastings in 2004, followed by the Napier store in 2006.
