Representation Review closing soon

Published: 27 October 2017

For the past month, NCC has been asking residents for their views on the make-up of Council.

2017 Representation Review

Currently Napier’s residents are represented by 12 councillors in a mixed system, - six at large councillors elected by the entire city, and six ward councillors, elected by residents in four wards.

Too many councillors or too few? Should we have ward councillors, at large councillors or a mix of both? Every six years we need to review Napier City Council’s make-up. Over the past month, we've been asking our residents - in pop ups across the city and also in an online survey - what they think. This consultation finishes next week - on Tuesday 31 October.

We're holding one more pop up at the 'We’re Water Safe family day out at Perfume Point this Saturday 28 October (10.00am - 1.00pm).

Once the survey has finished, the results will be presented to Council who will consider what options go through a formal consultation process early next year.

Following this consultation, Council will decide what, if any changes will be made to Napier’s system of representation. The Local Government Commission will then confirm the decision in time for 2019 local government elections.
