Doggie Day out in November

Published: 27 October 2017

The second annual free Bark Island event is coming to Park Island next month.

Bark Island 2017

The celebration of all things canine includes spot prizes, great stalls, including snacks for four-legged friends - and a sausage sizzle, icecream and barista-made coffee for the two-legged.

Two of radio’s biggest stars will be in Napier on Sunday 12 November as special guests - and guest judges - at Napier’s Bark Island.

Guy and Megan from The Edge, and Napier City Council, invite you to join them for our second annual free Bark Island event, at Park Island East between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Like last year, we will be running an epic dogwalk (formerly, wrongly known as a 'catwalk'), looking for the Best Dressed, Shiniest Dog and Most Like Owner winners. On the mic as MC will be The Breeze Hawke’s Bay's Martin Good.

The Edge's Megan Annear on what the judges will be looking for: “Imagination, creativity and big happy smiley faces with wagging tails to match!”

While Guy and Megan are joint owners of a lovely rescue cat called Plum, they both confess to being dog lovers and can’t wait for the day they own their own home and can expand their family. “I’m pretty easy with what breed of dog we’ll end up getting. I love Labradors and would love to have one, but I also like Border Collies too. So I guess we’ll get one of each! In saying that, we would love to be able to adopt a dog from a shelter like we adopted our rescue cat Plum. So on the day whichever dog needs our help the most will be the one we take home,” says Guy.

Megan loves seeing dogs “strut their stuff” and has some advice for anyone wanting their pet to impress the judges on the day. “Imagination, creativity and big happy smiley faces with wagging tails to match!”

This celebration of all things canine includes plenty of spot prizes, great stalls, including snacks for your four-legged friends, and for humans, a sausage sizzle, icecream and barista made coffee to purchase. You are also welcome to bring your own goodies and picnic rug.

Napier City Council’s Animal Control team will be on duty, ready to hand out treats along with advice on everything from exercise to obedience. Please remember that all dogs, irrespective of cuteness, must remain on a lead.

Where: Bark Island is at Park Island East on Sunday 12 November from 9.30am - 11.30am. To find the Fidos, listen to the woofs or follow the signs from the car parks.
