Chlorine-free tap to be relocated

Published: 30 August 2017

Chlorine Tap Closure

Tahera Recreational Reserve in Taradale is the home of Napier City's new chlorine-free tap which comes on-stream at midday this Friday.

A new chlorine-free tap will be available for public use in Napier from 12 noon this Friday (1 September).

The chlorine-free tap is being installed at the Tareha Recreational Reserve, off Guppy Road in Taradale, and replaces the current tap at Pettigrew Green Arena which will be closed from 10am tomorrow (31 August).

The new location should improve accessibility and safety for motorists, says Chris Dolley, Manager Asset Strategy, Napier City Council. “There is a clearly marked parking area, with the tap adjacent, which means it will be a lot easier to load vehicles with heavy bottles,” says Mr Dolley.

He also adds that Council is “on track” with network improvements. NCC aims to meet all the requirements of the Drinking Water Standards by late October in order for an independent assessment to take place – the ultimate goal being the restoration of secure status for the city’s bores.

Routine rates-funded maintenance has been in place for decades, however, the cost of network enhancements will be covered by this year’s 4.9% rates increase, of which 1% is for water infrastructure improvements, and by the usual maintenance and capital programme budget.

Please note that the Napier City Council water team will be on-line on Napier City Council’s Facebook page this Friday, 1 September, between 3 and 4pm. They'll be taking your questions on water supply, boreheads and chlorination.
