NCC adopts Annual Report

The value of building consents for Napier has jumped by 40 percent in the past year.

That is just one of the positive findings outlined in the Napier City Council 2015/16 Annual Report adopted on September 22 at the final Council meeting before the local body elections. Interest in the Parklands development on former Lagoon farm land remains high, with the number of residential lots sold helping to push the income from land sales $2.9m higher than expected.

Other highlights over the past year include the successful completion of the Awatoto Trunk Main, Taradale Reservoir, and four-laning of Prebensen Drive. The Marine Parade storm water outfall and viewing platform project was also a hit, going on to become a finalist in the Local Government New Zealand Excellence Awards earlier this year.

Napier’s average residential rates, at $1818, remain the lowest when compared with nine other city councils across New Zealand. “It’s great to be able to share these achievements with our ratepayers and residents. It’s also a reflection on staff who have continued to work hard to deliver an extremely high level of service to the community. This shows in our performance results,” says Napier Mayor Bill Dalton.

Roading accounted for just over a quarter of all rates expenditure, at 25.78 percent, followed by stormwater costs (11.52 percent) and sportsgrounds (7.85 percent).
