Boat ramp soon to be controlled by barrier arm

Published: 30 June 2016

Last Updated: 12 May 2017

Since acquiring ownership of the Nelson Quay Boat Ramp, previously owned by the Hawke’s Bay Sports Fishing Club, Napier City Council has implemented a user-pays system.

From 1 August, access to the boat ramp will be controlled by a barrier arm. Access can be made by an annual swipe card pass or by payment by Eftpos/credit card at the entry pedestal on a per entry basis.

Entry access is at the western end of the wharf by the clubhouse and exit at the eastern end by the toilet.

Fees for the period to 30 June 2017 are:

  • Casual entry fee is $7.50 per entry. This assumes that parking is not always available within the wharf car park and that a further entry may be required to retrieve the boat. This makes a cost of $15 per boat launch which is as per the Council approved Fees and Charges schedule.
  • The annual fees for swipe card entry are:
$100 for members of the HB Sports Fishing Club
$135 for non-members of the HB Sports Fishing Club

There is no refund or part-year fee.

Purchase of access cards may be made online via our website using keyword #boatramppass or via the 'Pay It' feature. Alternatively you can pay at the Napier City Council Civic Building, Hastings Street, Napier.

Terms and conditions are set out on the application form.

The access cards are able to be renewed in future years upon payment of fees. Correspondence will be sent out to card holders prior to expiry.

For more information about the purchase of access cards please contact the Napier City Council Corporate Property Manager.
