Napier City Council welcomes an announcement made on Friday, 10 June, that AUT Millennium Hawke’s Bay is going to be established at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park.

Deputy Mayor Faye White attended the presentation at which Sir Graeme Avery outlined the development and says she sees tangible benefits for all Hawke’s Bay residents.

"Hawke’s Bay produces more than its fair share of top athletes," Ms White says.

"The development of this facility will ensure more of our athletes are able to stay in the Bay, and we may very well attract other elite athletes to make the move here.”

It is also pleasing to see how much of the facility and its programmes will be dedicated to community initiatives, she says.

She feels confident it will be well supported by Napier ratepayers, and will complement the indoor multi-sport facility proposed for Napier.

Sir Graeme strongly endorsed the state-of-the-art Multi-Use Velodrome during the announcement. The detailed business case on the proposed facility is nearing completion and will be presented to Councillors for consideration shortly.
