Sustainable Excellence Realignment Structure proposal shared with staff

Published: 8 June 2016

Last Updated: 12 May 2017

Napier City Council staff have been advised of a proposed new organisation-wide staffing structure that will, Chief Executive Wayne Jack says, move Council’s focus more strongly towards high performance, innovation, responsiveness and better delivery of services to the community.

Council staff attended presentations this morning, and will now have 10 days in which to consider the proposal and submit written feedback on the matter.

Under the proposed changes, while overall staffing numbers will stay roughly the same, 78 roles will be disestablished to make way for 78 new roles. The final impact on current staff will not be known until the end of the consultation period. Mr Jack says that should the proposed realigned structure be implemented, it will provide a range of significant opportunities for staff with career aspirations.

Mr Jack also unveiled a new and more transparent approach towards staff performance management and development.

Staff were invited to ask questions at the meetings, and to continue to seek clarification on the proposal from their directors throughout the consultation period.

Mr Jack says that while change is always stressful, staff will have access to employee support services and he is hopeful that, if the proposed structure is adopted, Napier City Council staff will enjoy working in an organisation where “innovation and creativity is the norm – and where every person is a leader and is focused on better serving our customers.”

Staff have until 17 June 2016 to submit feedback on the proposal.
