Safer Napier wins national award

The Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand Safe Community Award has gone to a Hawke’s Bay person for the second year in a row.

The national award recognises outstanding support for the organisation at the regional level and major commitment to the cause by an individual. This year’s winner is Safer Napier Coordinator Liz Lambert, who was presented with the award at the National Forum for Safe Communities earlier this month.

Liz says the support of and partnerships with the foundation and her colleagues in Safer CHB, Safer Hastings and Te Wairoa He Hapori Haumaru are invaluable.

“It is a real honour to receive this award," Liz says.

" It is a reflection of all the great people doing great work in Napier to improve community safety.”

Liz’s Manager, Natasha Carswell from Napier City Council says the Safer Napier programme is very well supported by a range of central and local Government agencies, including Napier City Council as lead agency, and community organisations who work together with the community to improve safety in Napier.

"These organisations work together to reduce injuries, reduce crime, improve road safety, promote community resilience and reduce alcohol related harm.

“This is fantastic recognition for all the work Liz has contributed not only to the Safer Napier programme but also for the support she has given other Hawke’s Bay Safe Community networks as they have become accredited Safe Communities,” says Natasha.

Last year Hawke’s Bay based ACC Community Injury Prevention Consultant Sally Phelps won the Safe Community Award.
