Drinking water from tap

You may have seen councils around the country talking to their communities about the future of water services delivery, and central government water reforms called Local Water Done Well.

Water services delivery is the way your water gets to your tap and who looks after it once you flush. It's about who maintains the drains and fixes leaks, who plans for the future to make sure we have the water we need, and who ensures we are sustainable with our water use. It's also about ensuring we look after the environment when water we’ve used goes back out into it. In short: Water services delivery is about water supply (drinking water), stormwater and wastewater – sometimes called Three Waters. Councils are looking at how best to deliver water services in the future. Central government has asked councils to present a plan by September 2025 for how water services will be delivered in their area.

Look out for opportunities to have your say on the future of water services delivery in Napier.
