Friday deadline for greenspace views

Napier is renowned for its accessible and attractive open spaces, and now is the time for the community to have its say on how they are cared for and managed. Public consultation on the draft City Wide Reserve Management Plan closes this Friday.

The draft plan, available on the Council’s Say It Napier portal (sayitnapier.nz), outlines the future direction for Napier’s parks, reserves, playgrounds, and sportsgrounds.

Acting Mayor Annette Brosnan says the plan highlights the importance of green spaces as places of connection for the community.

“Locals and visitors alike enjoy Napier’s outdoor spaces, from playgrounds and public gardens to our wonderful network of pathways,” says Acting Mayor Brosnan. “With such a wide range of users, we need to ensure our reserves continue to meet the diverse needs of our community.”

“The plan considers the history of our reserves and their cultural significance. By combining this with what we know about how they’re used today and what people want for the future, we can plan properly for their ongoing care and development.”

A hearing for submissions will be held in April, after which the final City Wide Reserve Management Plan will be adopted, and detailed plans for individual reserves will be developed.

Napier City Council manages more than 700 hectares of parks, reserves, playgrounds, and sportsgrounds. More details can be found at napier.govt.nz.
