Sentiment about life in Napier is improving, with 66% of residents rating it as 'good' or 'very good', up from 63% in 2023. Additionally, 68% of residents see themselves staying in Napier for the next five years, an increase from 62% in 2023. Attitudes towards emergency preparedness and resilience are also improving, although not yet at pre-Cyclone levels.
Findings come for the 2024 Napier City Council Social Monitor Survey released today.
Deputy Mayor Annette Brosnan says it’s encouraging to see improvements in the way people feel about their home and wellbeing.
“Helping people feel a sense of belonging and connection is a big part of ensuring they have a positive experience of their city,” says Deputy Mayor Brosnan. “This positive trend reflects the ongoing efforts by community, Council and partner agencies to enhance the well-being of the community and showcases Napier's progress and community spirit.“
The 2024 Napier City Council Social Monitor Survey was prepared using a survey conducted between 4 September and 1 October 2024. A mixture of methods was used to gather opinions and attitudes including postal, telephone, and online surveys. A total of 500 responses were collected, ensuring demographic representation of Napier's population based on the 2018 Census. The survey aimed to measure residents' perceptions of social well-being to inform Council policies.
