More about the film:
Produced by one of Hawke’s Bay’s gems, Gaylene Preston, this 1990 drama tells the story of Rata and her young son, who find what seems like the perfect home in a small downstairs apartment.
Ruby, determined to avoid moving to the Sunset Villas retirement home, convinces her agent to rent the space to the seemingly suitable young businesswoman she spots from her window. However, appearances can be deceiving—Rata is a master of disguise, adept at welfare fraud, an aspiring rock singer, and a mother to eight-year-old Willie. Meanwhile, Ruby is far from the kindly child-minder Rata expected.
