We’ve been taking comprehensive scans of the inside of some of our smallest workspaces.
The wet and dry wells of our wastewater pump stations are being upgraded and we need to know exactly what’s in there so our designers can get to work planning refurbishments.
Using 3D scanning technology and equipped with a stereoscopic camera that functions almost like 'X-ray vision', the team can see what lies behind the walls, including pipes and structural reinforcements.
Some of our wastewater pump stations date back to the rock n’ roll era and building standards have changed since then!
These 3D models help our designers create safer, more efficient workspaces, especially in confined spaces like these wells, which can go as deep as 15 metres. The wastewater pump stations across the city help move Napier’s wastewater to the mains and on to the wastewater treatment plant at Awatoto.
