Vintage vehicles, classic cars, hot rods and a Ford Pop – they will all be on show on Marine Parade to help celebrate Napier’s 150th.
Wheels of Time Car Show, with free admission, is a collaboration between Napier City Council, Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club and Roaming Chrome Hawke’s Bay Inc to be held near the Spirit of Napier from 9am to 11am on Sunday, 3 November.
Napier City Councillor and self-confessed petrol head Grego Mawson says he’s looking forward to seeing all his favourite cars in one place.
“It’s exciting to see our car clubs getting together so everyone can enjoy their prides of joy. We’re expecting upwards of 300 vehicles on show, so it will be a real spectacle not to be missed,” says Grego. “This is also another great way to use one of Napier’s most popular outdoor spaces, and a place that is so iconic for our city, Marine Parade.”
“This is going to be a true celebration of automotive history and culture in Napier,” Grego says.
President of Roaming Chrome Car Club, Shane Max, says the club is moving its regular Sunday ‘Cruise in at Ahuriri’ event to coincide with Wheels of Time. The popular Sunday Cruise draws a crowd of hundreds each week.
“Joining forces with the HB Vintage Car Club is going to make for a very special car show with a great selection of classic and vintage cars, hot rods and V8s.” Shane says. “I love old cars because of their simplicity and the character of their shapes and designs. It’s something which, to me, has been long lost in modern cars.”
Shane is a passionate collector, currently the proud owner of five vehicles, including two projects and three on the road. His favorites include a 1948 Ford Bonus pickup and a charming 1948 Ford Pop, equipped with a 2-litre Cortina engine, which will be on show at the event.
Wheels of Time show attendees can expect to see:
Owners of unique cars are invited to join the event on the day, just roll on in before the event begins at 9am.
