We closed the Fountain down a few months ago after we found a cavity underneath the footpath was in poor condition.
Now, we are using cutting-edge technology to help ensure this fabulous foreshore feature continues to delight passersby well into the future. Data has been gathered using Point Cloud Scanning, where millions of lasers are fired around the space and the information collected is turned into a high-definition 3D image. In this way, we can capture a huge amount of info about a space, from the texture of the walls to the exact position of any services in the surrounding area. This technology will help us plan the best solution, with the aim of having the Fountain flowing again as soon as possible. While we are onsite, we’ll also be replacing electrical systems and upgrading the Fountain’s pump.
The most important part of the project is keeping users and staff safe, and preserving our beautiful Tom Parker Fountain, a Napier heritage icon.
