The great thing about libraries is they are environments that don’t demand anything from you, other than your presence.
When you sit in a library, you might be on a comfy couch, but you’re not at home. Or you might be at a desk with a computer, but you’re not at work! You might be connecting with friends, but you’re not at a café or bar.
Napier’s new library will be a community hub that will encourage creativity and innovation. It will be your space to explore your passions and hobbies.
There will be quiet spaces, noisy spaces, messy spaces and more. There might even be a book or two! It will be a place where everyone is welcome and everyone wants to be.
Our new library’s design is progressing well and it’s on track to open at the end of 2026.
The design has looked at sustainability options such as rainwater harvesting, as well as planting of endangered native flora, to be grown by mana whenua.
