Foam swabs called 'pigs' will be sent flying through Napier’s pipe network to give it a thorough clean. The process will see areas of the pipe network in Tamatea scrubbed clean without the use of chemicals.
When this neighbourhood is being cleaned out by the pigs, households may experience some discoloured water when water is stirred up, and some temporary loss of water supply.
Affected homes are given notice of their pipes being cleaned ahead of the team visiting their street. This year, pigging will take place in Tamatea only, Tuesday to Friday each week, starting at 9am. We expect this to continue until 20 September.
Here are the streets in Tamatea that will be undergoing water mains cleaning on Thursday 19 September:
There will be no water mains cleaning on Friday, 20 September. This also marks the end of the 2024 water mains cleaning programme. Thank you for your patience while this important work took place.
