Mayor Kirsten Wise, on behalf of the officers and elected members of Napier City Council, wishes to acknowledge the passing of Arikinui Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Vll.
Hikohiko te uira, papā te whaititiri
E kanapu ki te rangi
Ki runga ake o Maunga Taupiri
Kua hinga a Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Te Tuawhitu
Rire rire hau pai marire
Mayor Wise says Kīngi Tūheitia was a humble and compassionate leader who did much to raise the mana of te ao Māori and build strong relationships for the benefit of Aotearoa New Zealand.
“It is with the deepest condolences we pay homage to Arikinui Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Vll. We mourn his passing and send our thoughts to his whānau, and to all those who hold him in their hearts.”
