After 22 years, the National Aquarium’s travelator is approaching its end of life and it’s time to say final goodbyes.
National Aquarium General Manager Rachel Haydon says it’s been a fun feature over the years.
“That said, we’ve had to make the decision based on it life span and its need for renewal to keep it functioning. We also need to be realistic about our expenditure.”
The National Aquarium team has decided to extend solid flooring throughout the whole Oceanarium tunnel, instead of spending significantly more money that would be needed to upgrade it.
These works will start on Monday 12 August and will take about three weeks. In recognition that the Oceanarium tunnel will be inaccessible while the work is being done, a 20% discount on all general admissions will be offered while the work is going on.
The removal of the travelator has the advantage that new activities can be offered in the expanded space.
“We’re thinking ‘platters and bubbles under the sea’ on Valentine's night, yoga-in-the-tunnel and more. Keep an eye on our website or e-newsletters to stay updated,” says Rachel.
