The issues Napier faces in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle has been the focus of a meeting today between Napier City Council representatives and the Ombudsman’s office.
Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise and Chief Executive Louise Miller have welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier about the recovery and how the office can support the Napier community as a whole.
It has also been a valuable experience to discuss the way Council responds to information requests, particularly regarding the response and recovery processes and decisions, she says.
Mr Boshier and staff are spending several days in Napier, Hastings, Wairoa and Gisborne, meeting iwi and council leaders, and groups such as Citizens Advice and Community Law.
