Fun fitness programmes for small businesses have revealed some of Napier’s most charming hidden gems, and participants are loving it!
Unknown gardens, neighbourhood playgrounds and walkways have all been discovered thanks to ‘Amazing Booti-Races’ organised by Napier personal trainer and BootiFix founder, Danielle Paki along with partner, Edz Hekenui.
“Some of our clients didn’t know Centennial Gardens existed, and they’ve loved discovering different pathways up to Bluff Hill and Gleeson Park, which has an awesome playground – even a Blarney Stone in Ahuriri!” Danielle says.
“Many of them have returned with their whanau to maintain physical wellbeing, which is a fantastic result.”
The Amazing Booti-Races were established in conjunction with physical and mental health programmes delivered to local businesses during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, with assistance from Napier City Council’s COVID Recovery Projects Fund.
Recognising a need to motivate people to stay active and manage stress in a new era of a global pandemic, Dani and Edz kitted up a customised fitness trailer and travelled to various Napier locations to deliver fitness classes.
“We had to adapt our business and the way we provided classes due to the COVID Protection Framework. Bringing the mobile trailer filled with a variety of equipment including spin bikes, suspension ropes and boxing bags close to workplaces created easier options for employees to attend, and meant less time away from the workplace.
“Our mission was to motivate people to increase productivity and fitness, reducing absenteeism in the workplace and assisting with stress management.”
More than a hundred sessions were delivered between April 2021 and May 2022 to over 70 participants, who each reported an increase in fitness levels, activeness and enjoyment, which subsequently saw an increase in energy levels, resilience and a more positive mind-set.
“Investing in yourself is the greatest investment people can make. Self-care and self-value are key ingredients, which accelerate personal and workplace success. We are excited to continue the programmes and Amazing Booti-Races with Napier businesses,” Danielle says.
